the Massachusetts crew (a merry band of upstarts)
In the beginning...just kidding...sort of. This journey began in late 2013 while in production for the documentary, A Voice at the Table, a call to action to bring the lived experience voices of suicide attempt survivors to all tables connecting to suicide prevention and improving the quality of life for those at risk and/or healing.
In post production, two concerns were obvious. There was a Grand Canyon gap in peer to peer support resources for attempt survivors and their emotionally impacted family and close friends. So, I created a self-care, peer to peer wellness workshop for the #impactedfamily and Tracey Medeiros & I came together to co-create a workshop for attempt survivors further along the healing path. Within a year. we added loss survivors also further along the healing path. We call it a "blended hearts" approach to healing.
Over the last several years, A Voice at the Table evolved from a documentary, to a website, to wellness workshops, to a change-agent movement to end the marginalization of millions of people impacted by suicide.
Is This the Night: Finding Inner Peace and the Re-Energize & Re-Connect wellness check workshops are still hosted in southeastern MA (Bristol County). The workshops are held once a month for 5-7 months. In late 2018 into early 2019, satellite workshops launched in three locations in Missouri and more are in the works in Michigan and Maryland.

A couple of days in Missouri
On a couple of very warm summer days in July 2018, Tracey Medeiros and I got to spend time with our new #impactedfamily members in Missouri. The first day, we keynoted at the Southeastern Missouri Suicide Prevention Conference. The second day, we facilitated a Train the Trainer for both of our self-care projects - Is This the Night:Finding Inner Peace (ITTN) for family members, emotionally impacted by the suicidal crisis of a loved one, and the Re-Energize & Re-Connect Wellness Check (R&R) workshop series for suicide attempt & loss survivors further along the healing path. As a result, A Voice at the Table now has three satellite workshop series in Missouri - Jackson, Joplin & Troy. In addition, we have three Master Trainers available to assist and support the projects - Rick Strait, Heather Williams and Jacque Christmas.
